Our Select Anesthesia Options
1Oral Sedation
Oral sedation, a form of sedation dentistry, involves taking medication orally prior to your dental visit. As per Drs. Melani Kapetanakos and Steve Caldroney's recommendation, you will typically take your oral dental anesthesia approximately one hour before your appointment. This method induces a state of calmness and reduces dental anxiety in patients. The effects of oral sedation can vary based on the prescribed dosage and individual response.
2Nitrous Oxide
When patients think of sedation dentistry, they often think of nitrous oxide or “laughing gas”. It's often one of the most used forms of sedation dentistry thanks to ease of use. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask prior to treatment and will allow you to stay awake while feeling relaxed during the procedure. This option is a favorite thanks to its ability to wear off quickly once the mask is removed.
3IV Sedation
IV sedation, which is our most commonly used sedation method, involves administering anesthesia by a registered anesthesiologist intravenously to induce a sleep-like state in the patient. While the patient remains awake during the procedure, they may experience amnesic effects, leading to partial or complete forgetfulness of the treatment. It's important to note that IV sedation can have lingering effects, necessitating the presence of a companion to drive the patient home safely.
